DENNIS D. SHEPP, MBA, CPP, CFE Senior Partner and General Manager      Back to Top

Dennis has been a partner in Shepp Johnman Inc. since 1982, following service in law enforcement.

He graduated from the University of Alberta; Security Management program and has an MBA from Royal Roads University. Part of his graduate studies included attending Grenoble's Ecole de Management studying international business. Dennis is Board Certified in security management as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). He is an active member of ASIS International, is a member of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP), serving on the Prevention of Crime in Industry Committee. Dennis achieved the Accredited Security Professional (ASP) designation from the Canadian Society for Industrial Security (CSIS). Dennis is currently a faculty member and advisor for the Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), (ASIS) Asset Protection I & II and University of Alberta.

Dennis has managed numerous security risk analysis projects for health care, gas utility companies, government agencies and general businesses. He is an accomplished and sought after educator, trainer and group facilitator who has facilitated security management workshops in the United Kingdom, South Africa, Singapore, Middle East and throughout North America. Dennis has significant experience, related knowledge and skills required for managing software-based information tracking and analysis database systems for incident, case management and risk assessments.

Nelson Ostrup is a graduate of the Law Enforcement Program at Lethbridge College and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Houston State University. He joined Shepp Johnman in 1986 as an investigator and surveillance specialist. Through formal programs Nelson has expanded his competencies to include security surveys, risk analysis and covert camera installations. He has been successful as a team leader and project manager for investigations involving commercial fraud, sexual harassment, wrongful dismissal, asset recovery and financial investigations. Nelson has certificates in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) and Investigation of Arson for Profit. He holds professional designations as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP), a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and is a member of ASIS International and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He is our senior investigator, active Advanced Scientific Content Analysis (SCAN) program user and an accomplished interviewer. Nelson is an instructor at University of Alberta Faculty of Extension Business Certificate Programs and is presently teaching the Managing Investigations Course.  He is also a guest lecturer on Statement Analysis and Interviewing Techniques.

 

 

ROGER MASLEN, CPP, CFE, Managing Partner, Business Development and Security Services      Back to Top

Roger Maslen joined our firm in 1993 and became a Partner in 1998. Previously he was responsible for Ikea Canada's National Security, Safety and Risk Management program. Roger served with the Metropolitan Toronto Police for ten years and gained special training in the investigation of fatalities and personal injury motor vehicle accidents. He was also part of an organizing committee responsible for security surrounding special events such as the Molson Indy Toronto and the Canadian National Exhibition. He has given evidence at all levels of Court relating to Civil and Criminal matters and has special training and experience with statement analysis and structured interview techniques, industrial accident investigation, and asset protection. Roger attended Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, Business Administration Program, holds professional designations as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). He is the Senior Regional Vice President, for ASIS International. On January 1, 2003, Roger was appointed to the Board of Directors for the International Foundation of Protection Officers. He serves as a member of the University of Calgary Advisory Board for the Security Management Certificate Program and teaches The Investigation Certificate Program at Mt. Royal College. Roger is responsible for Business Development and provides Security Management Consulting to many of our Corporate Clients. He is based in our Calgary office.

 

 

DAN PETERSON, Branch Manager      Back to Top
Daniel (Danny) Peterson joined Shepp Johnman in May 1993 and at one point or another has worked at all three of our offices. Dan began his career in the investigative field as a Military Police Officer in the U.S. Air Force having served in the USA and Europe. As part of his career, he worked security for NASA. Since receiving an Honorable Discharge with Commendation he completed an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice at Northern Virginia College. Dan brought with him extensive experience in both criminal and civil investigations obtained from working in a diversity of related fields with Shepp Johnman, FBIG (Vancouver) and with a firm in Washington D.C. Geoff Frisby, CPP      Back to Top

Geoff joined our firm in 2005. After 27 years service Geoff retired from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in October 2001. Geoff served 13 years in uniform duties and was posted to the Drug Enforcement unit. During this time he was involved in many major investigations national and international as lead investigator, as well as an undercover officer. For the last nine years with the "Force" Geoff was in charge of the Source/Witness Protection Unit in Alberta. Geoff was also seconded to the Haitian National Police Academy to train their Cadets.

Other duties Geoff was involved with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were the Emergency Response Team, Search Master and Undercover. Geoff has given opinion evidence in a variety of investigations including drug enforcement, confidential human sources and the Witness Protection Program.

Geoff lectures extensively on a number of law enforcement topics including the recruiting and handling of confidential human sources. He assisted in establishing several sessions, workshops and courses in relation to the recruiting and use of human sources and the Witness Protection Program.

Geoff is board certified in Security Management and obtained the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation from the American Society of Industrial Security. He is actively pursuing a Certificate in Security Management with the Faculty of Extension at the University of Alberta.

Allan Altheim - Security Management Solutions Back to Top

Allan Altheim provides Security Management Solutions, specializing in preventive security methods using electronic security. Allan has an extensive background with Physical Protection Systems and the management thereof. More specifically, he has a wide range of experience in the design and implementation of Closed Circuit Television, Card Access Control, Interior and Exterior Intrusion Detection, and related electronic security systems.

For the past eight years as a Security Management Consultant, Allan has conducted Risk Assessments and Threat Analysis, provided recommendations for loss prevention and reduction, developed Policies, Procedures, and Security Master Plans for Physical Protection Systems, and provided security system design, specifications, and project management.

Allan is Board Certified as a member of internationally recognized group of security professionals who have attained the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation. This certification attests to an individual's mastery of the body of security knowledge through job experience and academic study. In addition, Allan holds a Diploma for completion of a recognized Electronic Technology Program, and has successfully completed courses in Basic and Advanced Closed Circuit Television Design, Card Access System Design, Communication Protocol and System Integration.

Further accreditation has been achieved in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) and Rational Project Management (Kepner-Tregoe Inc.).

Allan is an active member of ASIS International and at the local Chapter level has served as the CPP Representative facilitating a study program for individuals interested in achieving a CPP designation. He has also served as Membership and Technical Committee Chair, and was instrumental in the development of the local chapter web page.
